Pétra Werlé

bread and love

“I found my first world entirely in a few bread crumbs,” wrote the poet Antonio Porchia. This is precisely what Pétra Werlé has been doing for fifty years. She discovers wonderful worlds in simple pieces of bread. Her miniature theaters are populated by singular characters, like this artist filled with love for humanity and nature.

In the series Wakan Tanka, The Great Mystery for the plains Indians, created between 2016 and 2018, she depicts her little beings on animal engravings. So many inspired and caring messages that reconcile man and nature. A hymn to life where poetry rubs shoulders with the marvelous.

Pétra Werlé was born in Strasbourg in 1956. She lives and works in Montreuil.
